The capital is returning UAH 1.25 billion to the city budget, which it previously transferred to the state budget, counting on state assistance in implementing the measures of the resilience plan.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko announced this at the beginning of an extraordinary meeting of the Kyiv City Council, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
He noted that the state does not have time to absorb these funds, so Kyiv will have to build a backup heat system on its own.
"Today, the Kyiv City Council must adopt the decisions necessary for the prompt implementation of the measures of the Resilience Plan that the capital is implementing. In particular, we are talking about making changes to the Kyiv budget. UAH 1.25 billion, which the city planned to transfer from the local to the state budget in May of this year, we are returning to the capital's budget. And we will direct it to the work carried out by Kyivteploenergo, to the construction of a backup heat supply system, and other critically important measures for the sustainability of Kyiv," Klitschko said.
The mayor noted that Kyiv allocated these funds within the framework of agreements with the state on its participation in the implementation of the Capital's Resilience Plan, but the state cannot absorb these funds.
On July 14, the Kyiv City Council voted for changes to the city budget, which provide, in particular, for the return of UAH 1.25 billion from the state budget.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko initiated an extraordinary meeting of the Kyiv City Council to urgently consider issues related to the implementation of the Energy Sustainability Plan.
