Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that the country will no longer be a member of the Coalition of the Willing.

Radev made the corresponding statement on Tuesday, July 14, Bloomberg quoted him as saying, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We are not participating in the coalition that insists on continuing financial and military assistance to Ukraine. The solution to this conflict does not lie in prolonging it by military means, but in active diplomatic efforts that will finally put an end to the escalation," Radev told reporters.

Bloomberg recalls that since taking office as head of government, Radev has suspended the provision of state military assistance to Ukraine, although he has not stopped selling weapons to Kyiv.

Radev opposed the imposition of European Union sanctions on russian oligarch Vagit Alekperov (founder of Lukoil) and Patriarch Kirill.

Early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria were held on April 19, 2026. The Progressive Bulgaria coalition, led by former President and current Prime Minister Radev, won them with a landslide victory (44.59% of the vote).

The Coalition of the Willing is a group of over 35 countries that coordinates military, financial and diplomatic support for Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 27 of this year, Bulgarian Prime Minister Radev stated that the European Union should lead peace negotiations between Ukraine and the aggressor country of russia.
