German defense technology and AI company Helsing has appointed former deputy defense minister of Ukraine Andrii Shevchenko as managing director in Ukraine. Forbes writes about this.

Helsing co-founder Gundbert Scherf believes that Shevchenko's experience in politics, diplomacy and defense will help the company expand its activities in Ukraine.

Prior to this, Shevchenko was Ukraine's ambassador to Canada in 2015–2021, Ukraine's representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and in 2023 held the position of deputy defense minister. He was also elected three times as a member of the Verkhovna Rada.

Helsing is a European company that develops AI-based software and autonomous systems for the defense sector. It was founded in 2021, among the founders is former German Defense Ministry official Gundbert Scherf. Helsing has been operating in Ukraine since early 2024 and is expanding its local team. Since early 2026, the company has delivered thousands of HX-2 strike drones with its own AI system to the Defense Forces. The company claims that this system allows the drone to operate even in conditions of satellite navigation suppression, as well as independently detect and re-identify targets. The declared range of the HX-2 is up to 100 km.
