US Senator Lindsey Graham died on the evening of July 11 following a brief and sudden illness. His office announced the death of the Republican senator from South Carolina on X.
The statement noted that the senator’s family thanked everyone for their prayers and asked that their right to privacy be respected during this difficult time.
What Lindsey Graham did during his last visit to Ukraine?
The day before his death, on July 10, Lindsey Graham was in Kyiv. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and assured him that the US Congress would continue to support Ukraine.
During the visit, the senator announced that he and his colleagues had managed to agree with the White House on a new version of a bill to strengthen sanctions against russia. Graham was one of the co-authors of this document.

According to the senator, the passage of the bill was intended to expand the US’s ability to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities, particularly in countering russian ballistic missiles.
During his trip, he also visited the production facilities of the Ukrainian defense technology company SkyFall.

What was Lindsey Graham known for?
Lindsey Graham has represented South Carolina in the US Senate since 2003. Prior to that, he served in the US House of Representatives. He is a lawyer by training, served in the US Air Force, and held the rank of colonel in the Air Force Reserve.
After russia launched its full-scale invasion, Graham became one of the most active supporters of Ukraine among Republicans. He has visited Kyiv on multiple occasions, advocated for increased military aid to Ukraine, supported tougher sanctions against russia, and regularly called on Western partners to step up pressure on the kremlin.
