Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the russian dictator, has begun referring to russia’s aggression against Ukraine as a “war” instead of the propaganda term “special military operation,” which has been the norm for the russian side. This may be a way to prepare the russian population for the fall mobilization in russia, as well as for the further restrictions it will entail.
Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, has stated this.
He noted that Peskov has started referring to the conflict as a “full-scale war” instead of a “special military operation.” Putin’s press secretary also emphasizes that “it all started as a special military operation but escalated into a war.”
According to Kovalenko, this is not just a matter of word choice, but of information preparation.
“This is a deliberate effort to prepare the Russian population for mobilization, which Russia is considering for the fall. And also for the restrictions it will entail, including a ban on leaving the Russian Federation. Therefore, Russians should start leaving the country now, because a Russian soldier has a survival time of 15 to 30 minutes in combat,” he concluded.
It should be noted that earlier, in a comment to a russian propagandist, Peskov stated:
“There is a war going on; this is a real war. Do you know why it’s a war? Because it all started as a special military operation. It’s continuing as a war because Kyiv is backed by Berlin, Paris, The Hague, Oslo, and, unfortunately, Washington. Because they are being helped to target their targets through their satellites, and they are being provided with the entire infrastructure to assist them in doing so,” Peskov said.
As a reminder, Czech President Petr Pavel claims that Ukraine has two months to resume peace talks; otherwise, there is a risk that russia will expand the scale of the war. In particular, Pavel noted that russian dictator vladimir putin could declare a general mobilization after the “elections” scheduled for September 20.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, at the same time, Colonel Ants Kiviselg, the head of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center, emphasized that russia is responding to Ukraine’s successful strikes on russian oil refineries and infrastructure facilities by intensifying its information war against the West.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump did not call russian dictator vladimir putin after the conclusion of the NATO summit in Ankara, despite his own promises made yesterday. The kremlin explained the delay by saying that the American leader “was very busy.”
