The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi believes that the turning point in the war between russia and Ukraine is still far away.
Syrskyi announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Summing up the first half of 2026, Syrskyi noted that the pace of advance of russian troops has more than halved.
"The enemy tried to launch a large-scale offensive, but in fact could not achieve any of the goals set, despite an almost double advantage in personnel and equipment. If earlier the russian army conducted active offensive operations in 13 operational directions, now there are a maximum of six or seven such directions left," he noted.
Syrskyi reported that the Ukrainian troops are continuing the defensive operation, combining it with stabilization measures, and in some directions they are conducting active operations and maintaining the operational initiative.
According to him, currently the ratio of the assault actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the actions of the enemy is approximately 40 to 60, while the average monthly losses of the enemy in killed and wounded are about 32,000 servicemen.
The Commander-in-Chief also reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are consistently implementing the strategy of attrition of the russian aggressor.
In terms of the pace of advancement, the parties have actually approached parity.
At the same time, there is a steady trend towards an increase in the ratio of the territory liberated by the Defense Forces of Ukraine to those areas where the enemy manages to advance.
"At the same time, the enemy cannot be underestimated. The turning point in the war is still far away. The aggressor has not abandoned its plans to completely occupy the Luhansk and Donetsk Regions, seeks to expand offensive actions in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions, as well as create and increase a buffer zone in the northern regions of Ukraine," he noted.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, the intensity of the aggressor's missile and drone strikes, the use of guided aerial bombs, and the number of crimes against civilians are increasing.
That is why the Armed Forces of Ukraine are consistently increasing their capabilities in order to give the enemy a worthy rebuff and ultimately force the Kremlin to make a just peace.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in June, Syrskyi stated that the number of the offensive group of the russian army in Ukraine currently amounts to 721,000 servicemen.
