Ukraine is expecting the supply of a new package of PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems in the near future.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a comment to journalist Ramina Eshakzai, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"One package will arrive now. I will not say when. One package of PAC-3, we have agreed. And of course, with each of the countries we are discussing not only the PURL (official supply program). It is working, but this is not enough," the head of state emphasized.
According to the President, the number of missiles that arrive every month within the framework of the official program, financed by European and other countries, does not cover the real needs of the front and rear.
The russian occupiers launch twice as many air targets over Ukraine than the Defense Forces receive interceptors.
Because of this, the Ukrainian side is forced to look for alternative supply routes.
"There are also alternative packages that we do not officially talk about when you "squeeze" from each country. And so 5, 10, 20 missiles were taken from each country a little at a time so that Ukraine could survive," Zelensky shared.
The President emphasized that the only correct way out of this situation is to create an alternative to the American PAC-3 missiles. Ukraine is currently working on developing its own air defense.
"I think that in the coming weeks, maybe even a week, we will try to gather the countries that have now joined the anti-ballistic coalition. They are producing parts for our future Freya anti-ballistic system," Zelenskyy summed up.
Recall that also on July 2, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov appealed to 40 partner countries with a request to urgently transfer interceptor missiles for Patriot systems against the backdrop of massive missile attacks by the aggressor country of russia.
