Ukraine is approaching a new stage in the creation of its own ballistic missile. If the tests go according to plan, its test strikes on targets on russian territory can begin as early as autumn 2026.
This was reported in an interview with LIGA.net by the co-founder and chief designer of the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point, Denys Shtilerman.
According to him, the project is currently in the final stage of preparation for flight tests. First, it is necessary to complete engine testing, after which the missile will begin flight tests.
"As soon as we test the engine, we will begin flight tests. As soon as we see that the missile is controlled and performs the actions specified by the algorithm, we will proceed to tests in russia," said Shtilerman.
The designer suggested that this stage could begin in the coming months.
"I think that in the fall we will already be testing our missiles in russia."
Answering a question about potential targets, Shtilerman noted that, first of all, he was talking about Moscow and well-protected russian military enterprises.
"The first is Moscow, ... their military enterprises are protected. The most important thing - I am almost 100% sure - is that they will not be able to intercept properly," he said.
He also expressed the opinion that russian air defense does not have sufficient experience to effectively intercept ballistic missiles. In his opinion, Ukrainian developers will be able to improve the means of overcoming enemy air defense systems faster.
Recall that Ukraine has the opportunity to establish its own production of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems after obtaining the appropriate license. However, the biggest problem will not be access to technology, but the duration of the production launch.
