The tanker Yasa Polaris, which was chartered by the American energy company Chevron, was attacked by a drone near Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar Krai of the aggressor country, russia.

Reuters reported this, citing a statement from the managing company Yasa Tanker (a subsidiary of the Turkish holding company Yasa Holding).

In a statement sent to Reuters by email, Yasa Tanker stated that the tanker was struck by a drone last Tuesday, July 7, near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) oil terminal in the Novorossiysk area.

“All crew members are safe and on board. No visible damage to the hull has been reported. So far, there have been no reports of pollution or environmental impact. Our vessel has left the area,” Yasa Tanker reported.

Chevron also commented on the incident. The company stated that it is aware of what happened and that the crew is safe. At the time of the attack, the vessel was drifting near the terminal and was not carrying any cargo.

Reuters reports that the oil company TengizChevroil, led by Chevron, is the main exporter of CPC Blend crude oil produced at the Tengiz field in Kazakhstan. The oil is delivered to a terminal near Novorossiysk for further transshipment onto vessels.

As the Ukrainian News agency previously reported, earlier today, July 8, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) struck nine russian vessels in the waters of the Sea of Azov. In total, over the past three days, the Ukrainian military has struck 21 russian vessels.

The Ukrainian military struck six tankers, a dry cargo ship, and a ferry on the night of July 6–7. Two more vessels were attacked on July 6 near the russian city of Taganrog. They were transporting fuel to occupied Crimea.
