Oil refinery catches fire in Saratov following nighttime drone attack; strike on military airfield also reported

On the night of July 8, the russian cities of Saratov and Borisoglebsk came under attack by drones. Following the explosions in Saratov, a fire broke out at an oil refinery, while in the Voronezh Oblast, a fire was reported at a military airfield.

It was reported by russian Telegram channels, Saratov Oblast Governor Ruslan Busargin, and the ASTRA news outlet.

At approximately 2:14 a.m., Ruslan Busargin, the governor of the Saratov Oblast, stated that he had received information from the russian Ministry of Defense about the threat of a drone attack. Shortly thereafter, flight arrivals and departures were temporarily suspended at Saratov Airport.

Around 3:00 a.m., local monitoring channels reported a series of explosions and a probable drone strike on the Saratov Oil Refinery. Subsequently, reports of a fire on the refinery’s premises began circulating online.

The Saratov Oil Refinery, which is part of Rosneft, is one of the oldest oil refineries in the Volga Oblast. According to Ukrainian sources, the refinery supplies fuel to russian occupation forces.

Additionally, according to monitoring sources, drones attacked Borisoglebsk in the Voronezh Oblast. There are reports of a possible fire at the local military airfield.

The Borisoglebsk airfield is used by the russian Aerospace Forces. Fighter jets and bombers are based there, including Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM aircraft.

As a reminder, on July 6, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked an oil refinery in the Omsk Oblast of russia, the aggressor country. This facility is located nearly 2,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
