A current employee of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine admitted that, together with an acquaintance of his — a former law enforcement officer — shot and killed Anastasia Berezovska in Ukraine; she was suspected of attempting to murder sanctioned businessman Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco.
This information was provided to the Ukrainian News agency by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police.
According to law enforcement agencies, Berezovska arrived in Ukraine on July 1. The investigation established that after returning to Ukraine, she communicated with her family and two men. The first was a former law enforcement officer; the second was a current employee of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Having information that both men had repeatedly made transfers to Berezovska’s cryptocurrency and bank accounts, investigators treated them as possible suspects in the attempted murder in Monaco.
Urgent investigative (search) measures were carried out against them, during which the active officer of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confessed to the murder of Berezovska, which he committed together with the other suspect. He stated that he had not informed his superiors about his contacts with Berezovska, the transfers of funds to her, or any of his other actions, and that he had acted on his own initiative.
Additionally, during a search of the former law enforcement officer’s residence, a basement room resembling a torture chamber was discovered.
Both suspects have been detained on suspicion of murder committed as part of a premeditated conspiracy by a group of individuals. Based on the testimony of one of the accomplices, a forensic reenactment was conducted, and Berezovska’s body was found with gunshot wounds to the head, along with spent shell casings.
A notice of suspicion is being prepared. The investigation is ongoing. All information available to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies has been provided to the investigative authorities of the Principality of Monaco. The Office of the Prosecutor General is working closely with the law enforcement agencies of the Principality of Monaco. Law enforcement agencies are identifying the masterminds and other individuals involved in the attempted murder of the family in Monaco.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the National Police of Ukraine with operational support from the SSU’s counterintelligence unit and the personal assistance of Oleh Ivashchenko, the Chief of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and prosecutors are searching in Ukraine for the perpetrators and masterminds behind the attempted murder of businessman Yermolaiev and his family members in Monaco. Investigators in Monaco suspect the SSU’s involvement in the explosion that injured Vadym Yermolayev. Vadym Yermolaiev’s wife had her legs amputated following the explosion in Monaco. The Ukrainian woman who was injured in the Monaco explosion alongside Yermolaiev turned out to be the daughter of a former deputy prosecutor.
