President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has imposed sanctions against Boryslav Bereza, a former member of the Verkhovna Rada and former spokesperson for the “Right Sector” party. This is stated in Decree No. 588 of July 6, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
Specifically, with this decree, Zelenskyy enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) dated July 2, 2026, on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) against 14 russians and the Ukrainian Bereza. It is noted that the NSDC supported the proposals submitted by the Security Service of Ukraine regarding the imposition of sanctions.
The sanctions specifically include the revocation of Ukrainian state awards, the freezing of assets, the prevention of capital outflows from Ukraine, the suspension of economic and financial obligations, and a ban on the acquisition of land plots. Separately, the decree restricts access from Ukraine to resources associated with Bereza: his Telegram channel, YouTube channel, and Facebook page.
The revocation of Ukrainian state awards will be in effect indefinitely, while the remaining restrictions have been imposed for 10 years.
The President’s website reports that Zelenskyy signed decrees enacting the NSDC’s decision to impose sanctions against suppliers of equipment to russian military-industrial complex plants that manufacture missile components, as well as against russian propagandists. The decision also applies to 15 individuals and eight legal entities that support russia’s aggressive policy toward Ukraine, spread kremlin propaganda, distort facts, and illegally operate in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
Bereza, 52, is a former member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the 8th convocation (2014–2019) and a blogger; from February to December 2014, he served as a spokesperson for the “Right Sector.”
Bereza reacted to the sanctions on Facebook, linking them to his criticism of the government and stating that he is now subject to sanctions from both russian dictator putin and Zelenskyy.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in August 2024, it became known that the National Police had received documents requesting a search for former MP Boryslav Bereza due to his evasion of military service. It was reported that Bereza had left Ukraine as early as March 2024, crossing the border into Moldova on foot, and had not returned since.
In May 2026, the Vienna Commercial Court ordered Bereza to cease making statements about “Oschadbank” in the so-called “Hungarian case” and to remove the relevant posts, ruling that they could damage the bank’s business reputation. Bereza publicly stated that the case involved a possible capital flight scheme involving Oschadbank’s cash collection vehicles. The bank considers these statements to be untrue and damaging to its business reputation.
