Ukraine and Sweden are actively working on preparing the infrastructure and training pilots for the timely launch of Swedish Gripen fighters. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this on his Telegram channel after a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson on Sunday, July 5.
According to the head of state, during the conversation the parties discussed issues of strengthening Ukrainian air defense and countering russian combined strikes.
"Protection from this is the key to depriving russia of the opportunity to drag out the war. Of course, we discussed with Ulf things that can be done for greater protection," Zelenskyy noted.
The leaders paid special attention to cooperation in the aviation sector and preparations for the involvement of Swedish aircraft in combat operations.
"Ukraine and Sweden are actively working to ensure the timely provision of all infrastructure, training and launch of the use of Swedish Gripens. This is a historic strengthening of our combat aviation and major economic cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the security sector. It should be undoubtedly effective," the President emphasized.
In addition, Zelenskyy and Kristersson discussed interaction within the bilateral Drone Deal format and agreed on further contacts. The President of Ukraine also thanked the Prime Minister of Sweden for his clear position and support for our country in the war against russia.au
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson signed a declaration on deepening cooperation and also agreed to transfer 16 Gripen fighters to Ukraine.
