Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha proposed a package of anti-crisis measures during a meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in Warsaw. Sybiha announced this on X, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

Sybiha emphasized that Poland is important to Ukraine, just as Ukraine is important to Poland; both countries share a common enemy—russia—and a common challenge: russian aggression.

“I proposed a package of anti-crisis measures. This includes initiating consultations between our foreign ministries, organizing a meeting of World War II historians who participated in the Polish-Ukrainian Congress of Historians in May, and reaching out to religious leaders in both countries to leverage their influence in our bilateral dialogue, he said.

According to Sybiha, they noted that significant progress has been made over the past year and a half in addressing sensitive issues of the historical past; exhumations have been unblocked, the work of the historians’ congress has resumed, and Ukraine will continue to issue permits for search and exhumation operations.

He reaffirmed that the Ukrainian military’s choice of a unit name had no anti-Polish intent; Ukraine respects the history of other nations and expects the same approach from its partners.

According to Sybiha, he received assurances that Poland would continue to support Ukraine in strengthening its defense capabilities. They discussed in detail the prospects for military-technical cooperation and exchanged views ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara.

The focus was also on cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish companies, particularly joint projects for Ukraine’s reconstruction; they also discussed streamlining customs procedures for citizens and businesses, as well as the development of infrastructure at border checkpoints.

Sybiha thanked the Polish side for its prompt response to incidents of hatred and xenophobia toward Ukrainians in Poland, and also thanked Sikorski for a frank and constructive conversation.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, relations between Ukraine and Poland have deteriorated after Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced the revocation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Order of the White Eagle due to the decision to name a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the “Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).”
