It is unacceptable to confiscate citizens’ cell phones at territorial recruitment and social support centers. Deputy Minister of Defense Vasyl Shkurakov made this statement during the Government Question Hour in the Verkhovna Rada, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
“As for cell phones—this is unacceptable. Yes, we are addressing these issues; this is one of the issues concerning the violation of people’s legal rights. We are directly investigating all cases of cell phones being confiscated or of humiliation. Today, a decision has already been made to inspect the Mykolaiv and Odesa territorial recruitment and social support centers — a comprehensive inspection of these two agencies,” he said.
Shkurakov added that work is also underway regarding the Uman territorial recruitment and social support center; the head of the center has been transferred to another position, and the Ministry of Defense is investigating all reports of problematic incidents there.
The deputy minister also assured that reform of the territorial recruitment and social support centers will take place; it is currently being prepared and is scheduled to be presented to the government in the near future.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in June Shkurakov stated that the reform of the territorial recruitment and social support centers would be carried out after the issue of raising military salaries was resolved.
In June, Deputy Minister of Defense Mstyslav Banik announced that following the incident at the Odesa territorial recruitment and social support center, internal investigations would be conducted at all territorial recruitment and social support centers.
