The russian military conducted a command-and-staff exercise during which they rehearsed a scenario for a possible operation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to liberate the temporarily occupied Crimea. According to the exercise scenario, the russian side was tasked with repelling an attack by Ukrainian forces using modern weapons and a marine landing.

It was reported by The Insider.

According to the publication, russian military expert and reserve colonel Viktor Murakhovsky took part in the “Crimean Wake-Up Call” military exercise. He said that the exercise involved reserve and retired officers.

“In accordance with the scenario, the command posts were staffed by officers (in the reserves and retired) from our armed forces. The ‘Blue’ side acted unconventionally, making extensive use of the latest detection and strike capabilities. The ‘red’ side was forced to act ‘defensively.’ Overall, thanks to the organizers, the exercises proceeded smoothly and at a high level, Murakhovsky wrote.

As noted by The Insider, the russian expert attached a topographic map of Crimea and the adjacent Black Sea waters to his post. It showed the routes of a likely advance by Ukrainian forces from the direction of Odesa and the northwestern part of the Black Sea, as well as the defensive positions of russian troops around Sevastopol, in the north and east of the peninsula, including the Kerch Strait area.

According to journalists’ assessments, the simulated scenario did not resemble a classic amphibious landing operation. Instead, it envisaged the extensive use of drones, long-range precision weapons, and high-speed boats, which is consistent with modern warfare.

The publication suggests that such war games indicate that the russian command is considering various scenarios for possible actions by Ukrainian forces regarding the temporarily occupied Crimea.

As a reminder, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, stated that Ukraine intends to completely isolate Crimea in the coming months.
