Peace talks between the US and Iran have encountered new difficulties. The Iranian authorities refused planned direct contacts with the American delegation in Doha, as a result of which the negotiations took place only with the participation of Qatari mediators.
This was reported by Reuters.
According to the agency, US President's special representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in the capital of Qatar to discuss the further implementation of the agreements between Washington and Tehran.
However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that no contacts with US representatives are planned in the near future.
"No meeting with the American side at any level is planned in the coming days," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei.
Tehran stressed that before starting discussions on the nuclear program, it is necessary to first reach agreements on the mechanism for observing the ceasefire.
According to Reuters, the parties have also not yet been able to agree on a number of important issues, including shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and economic incentives offered to Iran.
The White House confirmed that the American delegation is in Qatar. At the same time, the Qatari side reported that consultations were held only with mediators, without direct negotiations with representatives of Iran.
According to Reuters, such a situation could significantly complicate the conclusion of a long-term agreement between Washington and Tehran, which would consolidate the ceasefire and resolve other contentious issues between the countries.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, against the backdrop of peace talks, the United States eased sanctions against Iran, allowing Tehran to sell its oil for two months and receive dollars for it.
