The Security Service of Ukraine’s Counterintelligence Directorate, in cooperation with soldiers from the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a russian agent in the “no-fly zone” who was directing enemy fire at the defenders of Lyman in the Donetsk Region.

It was reported by the SSU, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

According to the SSU, the suspect directed super-heavy guided aerial bombs, strike drones, barrel and rocket artillery, as well as “Solntsepyok”-type flamethrower systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops. Through these combined attacks, the occupiers’ assault groups hoped to break through toward the frontline city with the aim of subsequently capturing it. However, the Security Service uncovered the enemy’s plan in advance, documented the agent’s espionage activities, and took measures to secure the locations of the Defense Forces within the aggressor’s reconnaissance range.

In the final stage of the special operation, SSU officers, together with soldiers of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, apprehended the suspect “red-handed” near the front line in the so-called “kill zone,” while he was photographing the unit’s positions. As the investigation revealed, the enemy’s mission was carried out by a local unemployed man recruited by the russians. He had come to their attention during the temporary occupation of the community as a supporter of the kremlin regime.

Subsequently, russian intelligence officers reestablished contact with him and instructed him to track the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. During a search of the suspect’s residence, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the russian federation was seized. Investigators from the Security Service informed the agent that he was suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).

The agent was arrested without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The special operation was carried out by SSU officers in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions in cooperation with a unit of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the SSU detained a spotter who was guiding russian “Grad” rocket systems and FPV drones toward Nikopol. Earlier, the Security Service’s counterintelligence unit detained another russian female agent in the Donetsk Region. The suspect directed russian rocket, bomb, and drone attacks on Sloviansk and surrounding areas.
