Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that the dispute over the Order of the White Eagle concerns solely the interpretation of historical events and the fact that his country does not accept “Bandera’s red-and-black flag.” His remarks were reported by RFM24 on Monday, June 22.
Nawrocki refuted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s claim that the dispute over the revocation of the Order of the White Eagle is based on Poland’s domestic politics. He emphasized that the conflict concerns only the interpretation of historical events and Poland’s refusal to accept Bandera’s symbols.
“Dear Volodymyr, Mr. President. The dispute has absolutely nothing to do with internal Polish issues. That is not the case, because all Poles know and understand how much harm Ukrainian nationalists have inflicted on Poland, in Poland, on Poles, and on Polish children. President Zelenskyy is mistaken,” said the Polish president.
According to him, the dispute concerns the perception of historical issues. Nawrocki emphasized that this situation has united the government, the president, and the patriots of Poland.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 21, Polish President Karol Nawrocki explained the decision to revoke the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that it had exceeded the “pain threshold” of Polish society.
As a reminder, on June 19, Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced the revocation of the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which had previously been awarded to him by former Polish President Andrzej Duda.
