NBU's net international reserves declining for fourth consecutive month

The National Bank's net international reserves fell by 7.1% in May to USD 31.111 billion compared with the previous month.

This is according to data from the NBU, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Since the beginning of the year, they have decreased by 28.2% from USD 43.327 billion.

Net international reserves are the difference between gross reserves and the outstanding debt of the National Bank and the Ministry of Finance on loans from the International Monetary Fund.

The NBU’s official reserve assets decreased by 5.2% in May to USD 45.726 billion, and since the beginning of the year, they have decreased by 20.2% from USD 57.302 billion.

At the same time, gross reserve liabilities in May decreased by 0.9% to USD 14.615 billion, while since the beginning of the year, they have increased by 4.6% from USD 13.975 billion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, net international reserves increased by 48.8% from USD 29.102 billion in 2025.

In 2024, net international reserves rose by 2.4% from USD 28.381 billion.

In 2023, they rose by 54.6% from USD 18.322 billion.

In 2022, net reserves decreased by 11.8% from USD 20.767 billion.

In 2021, the NBU’s net international reserves increased by 14.6%, from USD 18.144 billion to USD 20.767 billion.
