US President Donald Trump stated that European countries should reimburse Washington for the USD 350 billion that, according to him, was spent on military aid to Ukraine during Joe Biden’s previous administration.
Speaking at Andrews Air Force Base, Trump said that during a meeting with European leaders, he reminded them of the scale of the aid.
“We gave you—just think about it—USD 350 billion—aircraft, all kinds of weapons, and more,” the US president said.
According to his statement, the Biden administration did not even demand payment from European allies, even though, in his view, they “should have paid.”
“All we had to do was tell the Europeans, ‘Just pay us,’” Trump said, adding that “no one asked,” and when he asked why they hadn’t paid, he was told, “No one asked us, sir.”
Earlier, in February 2025, Trump had already criticized the lack of proper accountability regarding US aid to Ukraine, estimating the US contribution at more than USD 300 billion.
At that time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refuted these figures, clarifying that the total cost of the conflict for Ukraine amounts to about USD 320 billion, of which approximately USD 120 billion was financed domestically, and about USD 200 billion came from support provided by the US and European allies.
At the same time, Zelenskyy cited USD 67 billion in US military aid and USD 31.5 billion in direct financial support.
