Polish President Karol Nawrocki said that Ukraine's accession to the European Union poses a threat to the Polish agricultural sector.

He stated this during the AgroLiga ceremony, the Polish President's Office reports.

"I joined this process too late, although even in this losing situation I did everything possible around the world to stop decisions that are harmful to Polish farmers," the Polish President said.

He stressed that he supports Ukraine's aspirations, but advocates for the protection of the interests of Polish farmers and Polish agricultural products.

"I am the President of Poland, and, understanding Ukraine's aspirations, I will always support a good attitude towards Polish farmers and Polish agricultural products, in particular in the context of the Green Deal and EU decisions," Nawrocki said.

Previously, Polish carriers, and later farmers, repeatedly blocked the movement of Ukrainian trucks. Carriers explained their protests by "excessive competition" after the introduction of "visa-free travel" between Ukraine and EU countries.

Among the demands of Polish farmers were a softening of the European "green deal", as well as an increase in subsidies, grants and compensation.

Recall, on January 23, Polish farmers held a strike in front of the Dolgobychów-Uhrynów checkpoint to prevent Ukrainian trucks.
