The army of the aggressor country, russia, continues to fortify occupied Crimea, as the russian military leadership fears a Ukrainian amphibious landing on the peninsula. Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, said this in an interview with The Kyiv Independent.

Pletenchuk noted that amphibious operations remain an important component of modern warfare. Ukrainian marines are conducting training exercises and preparing for various scenarios. If necessary, the Navy will carry out any operation to liberate Crimea.

The russians view this as a real threat and are therefore continuing to fortify certain areas of Crimea that are most vulnerable to an amphibious landing.

A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy compared such an amphibious landing to the Normandy landings during World War II, as these are extremely complex operations.

Landing troops there is extremely difficult. That’s obvious. But we have our own marines,” Pletenchuk added.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 17, rolling blackouts were implemented in several areas of Crimea. These were likely caused by nighttime strikes by Ukrainian UAVs.

As a reminder, the Atesh partisan movement reported on June 14 that officers of the russian Black Sea Fleet are evacuating their families from Crimea to Novorossiysk, where the russian fleet fled several years ago.
