Ukraine will begin domestic production of advanced Western air defense systems and long-range strike capabilities under licenses from international partners. The relevant agreements reached by the leaders of the G7 countries are set forth in a joint statement issued following the summit. Le Parisien reported this, citing a diplomatic source.
The allies agreed to significantly expand their support for Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex. According to the publication’s source, this involves launching weapons production facilities directly on Ukrainian territory. “We will manufacture under license not only air defense systems but also systems for strikes deep into enemy territory,” the source emphasized on the sidelines of the summit.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz clarified that US defense companies will be able to grant the relevant licenses to European and Ukrainian manufacturers. He also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his willingness to cooperate in this area, noting that such a step would allow for the most effective use of existing production capacity. In addition to transferring licenses, G7 leaders pledged to increase direct supplies of additional interceptor missiles and long-range weapons to Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the G7 has promised Ukraine more air defense systems and long-range weapons and is preparing new sanctions against russia.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer of the Patriot system cannot guarantee delivery dates for anti-ballistic missiles to US allies.
