There have been noticeable shifts in the position of the United States and President Donald Trump regarding the war in Ukraine toward a more realistic assessment of the situation. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told this to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.

According to him, Washington has begun to take a more pragmatic view of the actual state of affairs on the battlefield, possible scenarios for the future course of hostilities, and the extent of losses suffered by the russian army.

“The discussion centered on a shift in tone regarding Ukraine, a change in focus, and—in our view—more realistic expectations regarding the future course of this war and the stance toward Russia,” Carney emphasized.

In addition, the Canadian prime minister clarified that during the discussions, the leaders analyzed in great detail the mechanisms for increasing economic pressure on moscow and coordinated steps to provide Kyiv with additional defense support from the US.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 16, Zelenskyy stated that he had met with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which is currently taking place in France.

The meeting was a follow-up to a closed-door meeting that also included French President Emmanuel Macron. It was the first meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump in nearly four months.

As a reminder, after meeting with the Ukrainian leader, Trump stated that Russia, the aggressor nation, must sign an agreement to end the war against Ukraine.
