On June 16, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a note from the Ukrainian side regarding Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s attendance at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026, which will take place on June 25–26 in Gdańsk, Rzeczpospolita reported, citing a source in the Polish government.
It is noted that Zelenskyy’s visit to Gdańsk was in doubt amid tensions in relations between the two countries resulting from the scandal over the decision to name the “Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army” to the “North” Special Operations Center of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the same time, a few days ago, Ukrainian MP Mykyta Poturaiev of the Servant of the People party stated in an interview with the Polish Press Agency that the President of Ukraine “is supposed to be” in Gdańsk: “There are such plans, and I know that we are all planning to come. Although I cannot speak on his (the President of Ukraine’s - ed.) behalf.”
A source from the Polish government has now confirmed Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s attendance at the conference in Gdańsk in a conversation with the publication.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 will take place on June 25–26 in the Polish city of Gdańsk. The event will bring together 5,000 guests—heads of state, politicians, and business representatives. The organizers plan to sign dozens of various commitments and agreements during the event.
This is the first time the conference is being held in Poland; previously, it took place in Lugano, Berlin, London, and Rome—marking the first time it has been held outside the G7 countries, as well as Poland’s first participation in the donor platform.
Among the guests, the organizers expect more than a dozen leaders at the level of heads of government and heads of state—a total of about 20 such delegations—and there are already several dozen official delegations at the level of foreign ministers and ministers from other departments. A delegation from the European Commission is also expected, likely including Ursula von der Leyen and four commissioners.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Polish Presidential Spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz explained that Polish President Karol Nawrocki is in no hurry to make a decision on stripping Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle due to the scandal involving the “Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army,” and that Poland “will wait a little longer.”
At the same time, the press secretary noted that the Polish side is speaking out abroad about the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to bestow an honorary name in honor of the “Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army” on the “North” Special Operations Center of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
