"Black box" already found at crash site of Su-24M in Khmelnytskyi Region; State Bureau of Investigation conducting investigation

The State Bureau of Investigation has opened a pre-trial investigation following the crash of a Su-24M military aircraft in the Khmelnytskyi Region on June 16 at approximately 7:00 p.m., in which two servicemen were killed, and the flight recorders (“black boxes”) have already been recovered.

It was reported by the SBI.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The flight was conducted in accordance with combat orders.

An operational-investigative team is working at the scene. Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the flight, checking the technical condition of the aircraft, and determining the causes of the crash.

During the investigation, the flight data recorder has already been recovered for forensic analysis. Law enforcement officials are also seizing the aircraft’s flight log, the crew’s medical examination records, the airfield flight director’s documentation, and other official and authorization documents related to flight operations.

Two military personnel were killed in the plane crash. One of them joined the military on February 24, 2022, as one of the first volunteers; the other chose military service as a career in 2019.

A preliminary investigation has been opened under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of flight rules or preparation for flights, resulting in a crash or other serious consequences.
