US President Donald Trump has significantly changed his stance on the russian-Ukrainian war. He previously believed that Ukraine had no bargaining chips and should cede territory, but now it seems the situation has changed.

Bloomberg reported this on Tuesday, June 16, citing its own sources.

Unnamed sources told the agency that world leaders gathered for the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, believe that Europe and the US are in agreement that Ukraine’s position is strengthening.

For a long time, beginning with his meeting with russian dictator vladimir putin in August 2025, has steadfastly believed that Ukraine has no bargaining chips and that it should cede territory to end the fighting.

However, this morning, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Évian-les-Bains, cameras captured him discussing with summit host Emmanuel Macron a strategy for organizing a meeting with Trump.

Shortly thereafter, according to one of Bloomberg’s sources, Macron briefly brought the two presidents together on the sidelines. Zelenskyy showed Trump photographs of the damaged Assumption Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The agency’s source noted that the US president was moved upon seeing them.

Another source noted that a general consensus has now emerged that russia cannot win on the battlefield. This indicates a significant shift in Trump’s attitude toward the conflict compared to how he assessed the situation after meeting with Zelenskyy last summer.

Earlier today, Deutsche Welle’s chief political editor, Michaela Kuefner, reported, citing sources, that Trump acknowledged at the G7 summit that putin is now in a weaker position than before.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in late May, russian propagandists began widely acknowledging that the pace of the russian aggressor’s military offensive had fallen to its lowest level in the past two years.

Shortly before that, Bloomberg reported that p;utin’s inner circle believes the war against Ukraine has reached a stalemate and has no clear path to resolution.
