London is preparing a large-scale attack on russian energy revenues and at the same time undertakes to strengthen the Ukrainian energy system - a new package of tough restrictions against Moscow, as well as a two-year program of supplying enriched uranium to Ukrainian nuclear power plants, is announced by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the G7 summit.
This was announced by the British government, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
It is noted that the main target of the new sanctions will be the Kremlin's illegal "shadow fleet".
The British authorities took such a step after their forces first blocked a tanker carrying banned russian oil.
In addition to maritime logistics, financial structures that help the aggressor circumvent global bans and sponsor the army will be hit by sanctions.
London is also expanding the blacklists for ships transporting russian liquefied natural gas - now the number of such blocked LNG carriers will exceed 600 units.
In parallel, the UK is investing in Kyiv's energy independence from russian fuel.
Starmer will announce the allocation of 210 million pounds sterling through the state export financing program.
These funds will allow the British company Urenco to supply Energoatom with enriched uranium for the next two years.
The project was the result of recent personal negotiations between the British Prime Minister and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the G7 summit, Keir Starmer will also appeal to international partners to radically increase assistance to Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May, the Office of the President of Ukraine stated that russia's "shadow fleet" is adapting to Western sanctions thanks to the activities of the company 2Rivers (formerly Coral Energy), which could not be stopped by the imposition of previous sanctions.
