As a result of the massive russian attack on Kyiv on the night of June 15, a direct hit occurred on the complex of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. A fire broke out on the territory of the shrine, in particular, the roof of the Assumption Cathedral caught fire.

This was reported by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, and the mayor of the capital, Vitalii Klitschko.

At about two in the morning, Klitschko announced a fire on the territory of the Lavra and a fire on the roof of the Assumption Cathedral.

Tkachenko later reported that the fire was caused by a direct hit.

"The fire of buildings on the territory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra has been confirmed. Previously, it was caused by a direct hit," he wrote.

The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphany, reported that the roof of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was on fire during the attack. In a post on social networks, he called the attack on the shrine "another crime against humanity."

"What else must the Kremlin's antichrist do to make the world realize that it is necessary to act decisively so that russian terror against Ukraine and the very principles of peace stops?" he noted.

Photos of the fire on the territory of the Lavra were published by the spokesman for the Kyiv Metropolis of the OCU, Yevstratiy Zorya.

"Thanks to the coordinated actions of the brethren of the Lavra, all those involved, as well as the selfless work of rescuers and fire departments, it was possible to minimize threats to people and save the shrines. At the moment, the consequences of the attack are being eliminated, the damage is being assessed and all the circumstances of the event are being recorded," added Avraamiy.
