Ukraine will allow the Hungarian minority living in Ukraine to duplicate street names in their places of residence, and students to communicate in Hungarian during breaks.
This was announced by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka during the hour of questions to government in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"We have finally convinced the Hungarian government that the action plan that we presented a year and a half ago will serve as a proper protection of the rights and interests of national minorities. We do not have a separate agreement on Hungary. We have an agreement with the European Union on the further development of policy on national minorities in general," he said.
According to Kachka, the Hungarian government has made sure that the existing action plan implements the rights of the Hungarian minority, they have opportunities for both education and the exercise of language rights.
"We are talking about the fact that the measures envisaged in the action plan, in particular regarding the possibility of duplication in their places of residence, that is, in settlements, of street names; the possibility of using the symbols of national minorities during the celebration of memorable dates and holidays of national minorities; other things will be implemented... And there are also specific issues related to the educational process, in particular regarding the opportunities for students to communicate in the language of the national minority during breaks - this is almost the only substantive issue," the Vice Prime Minister said.
According to Kachka, the Hungarian side agreed that the implementation of this plan ensures proper protection of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine and does not require separate bilateral agreements.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar previously stated that Ukraine and Hungary have reached a comprehensive agreement on expanding the rights of the Hungarian minority living in Ukraine; if Kyiv fulfills its obligations, Budapest will agree to open the first negotiation cluster on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
