The US Senate Committee on Armed Services has approved the allocation of USD 750 million in support for Ukraine as part of a new defense bill.
This is announced by Reuters, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
This is the Senate version of the annual US National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the total funding of which is USD 1.15 trillion.
The document provides USD 750 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
This program finances the purchase of weapons and military equipment from American manufacturers for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, the bill prohibits the use of budget funds to recognize russian sovereignty over any Ukrainian territories.
American government agencies are also obliged to continue providing Ukraine with intelligence support to protect and restore its territorial integrity.
At the same time, the Senate committee supported the initiative to rename the US Department of Defense to the Department of War.
A similar decision was previously approved by a House committee, but representatives of the Democratic Party oppose this proposal.
Despite the support of the committee, the bill has not yet entered into force.
It is awaiting consideration and voting in both houses of the US Congress.
After that, the document must be agreed upon, and the final decision on its signing or veto will be made by the President.
Last week, the US House of Representatives supported the decision to provide assistance to Ukraine and impose sanctions against russia, despite the objections of some Republicans.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump supported the idea of a personal meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and russia, commenting on Volodymyr Zelenskyy's open letter to the head of the Kremlin.
