The Naftogaz Group has secured long-term LNG regasification capacity in Europe for the first time.

Serhii Koretskyi, the chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, announced this on Facebook, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

The agreement covers the LNG terminal in Klaipėda (Lithuania) for the period from 2033 to 2044. The terminal operator, KN Energies, successfully completed the relevant allocation procedure.

For Ukraine, this is an important step in diversifying gas supply sources and routes. Previously, similar operations were carried out in partnership with other companies.

"We are now moving to a new level of cooperation and supply planning. Such decisions are of strategic importance for Ukraine’s energy security, expand our access to the global LNG market, and strengthen the long-term stability of gas supplies. Naftogaz has become one of five customers that have reserved long-term capacity at the terminal. Equinor, Ignitis, Latvenergo, and Gasum have done the same," Koretskyi said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Naftogaz Group previously reached an agreement in principle with a special committee of holders of two series of Eurobonds regarding the restructuring of obligations totaling approximately EUR 1.2 billion.
