The scandal surrounding the transfer of 15 buses from the Polish city of Kielce to Vinnytsia has ended with the buses being dismantled for spare parts to be sold, and the remaining parts sent to be scrapped. It was reported by the Polish publication Echodnia.

Agata Wojda, the mayor of Kielce, explained that Ukraine was to receive 17-year-old buses that had been taken out of service, so they cannot be used as public transportation.

"These are 15 out of 40 vehicles that will no longer serve as city transport in Kielce and, most likely, will not be used in any Polish city due to their age, mileage, and technical condition. These are buses that we will likely sell for parts, and if that doesn’t work out, they will be sent to the scrapyard,” she explained.

Wojda also emphasized that Vinnytsia’s public transport system relies primarily on trams and trolleybuses, so during power outages, the city is in urgent need of backup bus service.

"These buses could really strengthen the day-to-day operations of our friends in Vinnytsia," noted the mayor of Kielce.

As is known, the scandal erupted after opposition lawmakers from the Law and Justice party publicly criticized the idea of the transfer, linking it to the issue of honoring the memory of the Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Stepan Bandera specifically in Ukraine. Wojda accused the opposition of spreading misinformation and creating an atmosphere of hatred toward Ukrainians on social media. Meanwhile, Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov withdrew his request for the free transfer of 15 buses from the Polish sister city of Kielce due to criticism from Polish politicians regarding the existence of Stepan Bandera Street in Vinnytsia.
