Law enforcement officers detain man who set off explosion at Nova Poshta terminal in Kyiv on June 5

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police have detained the man responsible for the explosion at the Nova Poshta postal terminal in Kyiv on June 5. It was reported by the SSU press service. 

The incident occurred in the Obolonskyi District. While unloading packages, one of them detonated. This resulted in the death of one of the branch employees, and two others sustained injuries.

"According to the investigation, the package contained fragmentation munitions, the shipment of which is prohibited, and the sender of the dangerous parcel was a 35-year-old native of the Donetsk Region who currently resides in Zaporizhzhia. Disregarding safety regulations, he sent illegally acquired weapons to an acquaintance in Kyiv," the statement said.

SSU operatives, together with National Police officers, detained the suspect at his residence in the Zaporizhzhia Region. During urgent searches, law enforcement officers found data on the contents of the package and its shipment on the detainee’s mobile phone.

The man was notified of his status as a suspect under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives).

The Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv imposed a non-alternative preventive measure in the form of detention. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

As a reminder, earlier Nova Poshta confirmed a second attack by the russian federation on an innovative terminal in Dnipro.
