The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, apologized to Greece for the incident with a naval drone, which was discovered in Greek territorial waters near the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea in May.
This was stated by an official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in a post on X.
The ministry spokesman emphasized that the appearance of the drone was the result of circumstances caused by russian aggression against Ukraine.
"Since the current challenges to international and regional security, in particular related to maritime security and the activities of the russian "shadow fleet", are a matter of common concern for both Greece and Ukraine, Ukraine emphasizes its commitment to the norms of international law and the principles of the safety of civil navigation, noting its interest in preventing similar incidents in the future," the diplomat emphasized.
Tykhyi noted that this incident demonstrates that the russian war poses a threat not only to Ukraine, but also to "neighboring friendly states, Europe and the world in general."
The spokesman added that Kyiv highly values friendly relations with Athens and is grateful to the Greek people for their support from the first days of the full-scale invasion. "Ukraine, like Greece, remains committed to further deepening friendly relations between our two countries and developing constructive dialogue in all areas of mutual interest," Tykhyi stressed.
