Authorities in the Romanian port of Constanța have activated a "red alert" following an explosion near the oil terminal. No injuries have been reported so far.

It was reported by the Romanian publication Digi24.

The incident occurred near berths 77–78, not far from the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Human Life at Sea (ARSVOM). The object in the water was spotted around 5:00 a.m.

Preliminary reports suggest it is a marine drone carrying an explosive charge of several dozen kilograms. Its origin is currently being determined, though the report mentions a possible Ukrainian connection. How the device ended up in the port’s waters has not been established.

Following the explosion, the information was relayed to the country’s leadership. Among those informed was Romanian President Nicușor Dan, who was aboard a Spartan aircraft en route to Montenegro for the EU–Western Balkans summit.

As a reminder, a few days ago, the Romanian Navy detonated a russian anti-landing mine that had been washed ashore on its Black Sea coast by the waves.
