In May, the Ukrainian Armed Forces brought the R-280 highway—which connects the russian city of Rostov-on-Don with the temporarily occupied Crimea—under fire control. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

In particular, it is reported that throughout May, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, using middle strike tactics, continued to methodically destroy logistics facilities, warehouses, command posts, air defense systems, and other components of russia’s offensive operations.

"Particular attention should be paid to bringing the key logistics of the Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied areas of the Luhansk Region and Eastern Slobozhanshchyna under fire control, as well as the route between the temporarily occupied cities of Berdiansk, Melitopol, and Dzhankoi (the enemy refers to it as Highway R-280), which connects Rostov-on-Don with the temporarily occupied Crimea," the statement reads.

According to the report, in May, the Defense Forces carried out successful strikes on enemy armored vehicles and depots directly near the "Izvaryne" checkpoint on the Ukrainian-russian border, located more than 205 kilometers from the front line, logistics in the areas of Luhansk, Starobilsk, Alchevsk, Bryanka, and Kadiivka have come under constant drone fire.

"The logistical collapse in the Luhansk Region is crippling the aggressor’s frontline units, depriving them of their offensive capabilities," the ministry reports.

The so-called russian "Federal Highway R-280" is a key military-logistical highway over 500 km long; connecting Rostov-on-Don with the temporarily occupied Crimea through the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson Regions, specifically through Mariupol, Berdiansk, and Melitopol. This route serves as the main “land corridor” and supply route for fuel, ammunition, and equipment for the entire southern group of russian federation troops.

The Ministry of Defense reports that Ukrainian drones are now regularly striking cargo vehicles, fuel tankers, and military equipment along the entire length of the route; successful attacks on logistics vehicles have been recorded in the Chonhar and Sokolohirne areas and at the exits from the temporarily occupied peninsula.

Firepower is directed not only at moving targets on the highway itself but also at supporting infrastructure — logistics depots, parking areas, and repair bases in the occupied cities along the Azov Sea.

Along with strikes on railway hubs (such as Debaltseve) and bridge crossings, the disruption of road traffic deprives the russian federation’s army of the ability to rapidly redeploy reserves between the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, at the end of May, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that the Ministry of Defense is launching the "Logistical Lockdown" program to scale up middle-range strikes (strike drones targeting objectives at ranges of 30 to 200 km) and systematically destroy russian capabilities at operational depth.
