In 2025, trade between Ukraine and China grew by more than a quarter, exceeding USD 21 billion, and this growth continues this year. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this on Facebook, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

Sybiha noted that strong diplomacy is measured not only by political decisions but also by new markets for Ukrainian producers, investments, trade, and concrete opportunities for the economy; China remains one of Ukraine’s key trading partners, so the development of pragmatic and mutually beneficial cooperation is in the interests of both countries.

He reported that he held a meeting with Ukraine’s Ambassador to China, Oleksandr Nechytailo; they discussed the current state and prospects of Ukrainian-Chinese relations, as well as concrete steps to advance Ukraine’s interests.

They paid particular attention to maintaining political dialogue and preparing for future high-level contacts. Sybiha is convinced that it is precisely regular communication and direct dialogue that allow for effective progress across the entire spectrum of the bilateral agenda.

The minister noted the positive momentum in trade and economic cooperation with China.

"Despite the full-scale war, bilateral trade has not only recovered but has also exceeded pre-war levels. Last year, trade between Ukraine and China grew by more than a quarter and exceeded USD 21 billion. Trade growth continues this year as well," he said.

Sybiha noted that expanding access for Ukrainian products to the Chinese market remains a priority; over the past year and a half, new opportunities have been opened for the export of Ukrainian peas, wild-caught seafood, and wheat flour.

He added that Ukraine is working to finalize procedures for entering the Chinese market with poultry meat and pet food, which is important for supporting Ukrainian producers, creating new business opportunities, and balancing bilateral trade.

Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine is interested in predictable, stable, and mutually beneficial relations with China and continues to work to fill the dialogue with concrete content and practical results.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April, the State Service for Food Safety announced that Ukrainian flour would be exported to China.

According to a report by the Ukravtoprom association, in 2025, Ukrainians purchased twice as many passenger cars imported from China: 29,300 units compared to 2024.
