In St. Petersburg, russia, a fire broke out at one of the region’s largest oil facilities following a drone attack. Local residents reported a series of explosions, and photos and videos of thick smoke over the city appeared on social media.
According to russian Telegram channels and the publication Astra, the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal was targeted. Leningrad Region Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko initially reported three allegedly downed drones, but later stated that approximately 30 drones had attacked the region.
The incident also caused disruptions at Pulkovo Airport, where some flights were delayed or canceled.
Later, Astra, after analyzing eyewitness footage, confirmed a fire at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal — one of the largest oil refining complexes in northwestern russia.
The attack occurred on the opening day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which is expected to be attended by foreign business leaders.
Also, on the night of May 28, russian social media accounts reported a strike on the Progress plant in the Tambov Oblast, which manufactures equipment for aviation and missile control systems.
As a reminder, on May 28 and during the night of May 29, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of key russian occupation targets, including the Volgograd oil refinery, the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station, a Tor-M2 air defense system, a logistics warehouse, and UAV command posts.
Besides, on the night of May 31, Ukrainian defenders struck the Saratov Oil Refinery, where a large-scale fire has been reported. Among other targets of the occupying state that were struck is the Lazarevo line production and dispatch station in the Kirov Oblast of the russian federation.
Meanwhile, on the night of June 2, the Ilsky Oil Refinery caught fire in russia’s Krasnodar Krai following a drone attack.
