The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets demands creation of a working group at the Ministry of Defense to respond to human rights violations during mobilization.
Lubinets announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"I demand the immediate creation of a working group at the Ministry of Defense! A reform that does not begin with respect for human rights risks turning into another attempt to pretend that the problem does not exist. And it does exist. And it cannot be hidden," he wrote.
Lubinets announced that he had proposed creating a working group at the Ministry of Defense with the participation of representatives of parliament and the Ombudsman's Office to respond to cases of human rights violations during mobilization measures.
He sent a corresponding official letter to the Ministry of Defense.
Lubinets reported that he continues to receive complaints about systemic human rights violations during mobilization.
"In practice, we see: the use of force continues, the detention of citizens continues, the seizure of personal belongings also continues. And the most cynical thing is that they are all doing it in balaclavas! Although I was assured that people in balaclavas will no longer participate in such events. That the relevant order will be carried out... So where is the implementation of the order of the Ministry of Defense?! Who controls its compliance and who will be responsible for its actual ignoring?!" he noted.
Lubinets emphasizes that citizens cannot be required to conscientiously fulfill their duties if individual officials allow themselves to violate their rights, and we cannot talk about reform when the problems that the Ombudsman's Office has been drawing attention to for years remain unresolved.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Lubinets previously stated that territorial recruitment and social support centers are increasingly turning into places of deprivation of freedom for citizens, while the authorities respond to human rights violations only when there is a public outcry.
