Ukraine and the United States have not yet signed a large framework document on cooperation in the field of unmanned systems, despite Kyiv's full readiness for deep technological integration. At the same time, the Ukrainian side is actively scaling this direction in the international arena and is currently preparing a large-scale agreement on drones with the European Union. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview for the Face the Nation program on CBS News.
According to Zelenskyy, the potential partnership between the countries could become the strongest in the world. American companies have advanced artificial intelligence technologies that Ukraine does not have, while Kyiv has a unique and colossal experience in using drones in real combat conditions.
The Ukrainian side was ready for maximum openness on this issue.
"We wanted to conclude the first Drone Deal with the United States. The United States wanted to test all types of our drones. We agreed on how they wanted to test, use for training and apply our systems in the air, on land and at sea. But we still do not have a bilateral Drone Deal - a large framework document," the President stated.
He emphasized that to move the process forward, not just talks are needed, but concrete steps as soon as possible, and for this it is necessary for President Trump to say "yes".
While the dialogue with the United States continues, Ukraine is successfully concluding agreements with other partners. Currently, Kyiv has already signed documents on drones with some countries in the Middle East and Europe, and is also actively working on preparing a large agreement with the EU. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that a similar result will be achieved in the negotiations with American partners, noting that he is counting on it.
In addition to unmanned technologies, the leader of the state touched on another critically important issue of air defense. Zelenskyy reported that in a letter to Donald Trump he officially requested a license for the domestic production of anti-ballistic missiles for Patriot complexes in Ukraine and is currently awaiting a response on this matter.
Recall that Ukraine agreed with the European Union to actively move towards the joint production of drones (Drone Deal).
