Despite the harsh statements made by US President Donald Trump’s administration toward Europe, NATO does not see a crisis in relations and remains confident that the new defense plans will be implemented.

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, stated that European allies are already responding to Washington’s demands to increase defense spending and are moving toward meeting the Alliance’s new goals.
According to him, NATO has a clear defense planning mechanism that will allow member countries to gradually build up the necessary capabilities and reach the target spending level of 5% of GDP.
“We have a NATO defense planning process process to give us the capability that we need, and we will acquire that in time,” Cavo Dragone emphasized.
He also stressed that “As a military side, we don’t have any drama going on” in relations between NATO and the US. Commenting on recent incidents involving russian drones that violated NATO countries’ airspace, Cavo Dragone urged against "overreacting" to such cases.
Cavo Dragone’s statements came after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue forum in Singapore. It was reported by the Ukrainian News agency.
He noted that European and NATO countries must make a series of important decisions, without specifying exactly what he was referring to.
Amid discussions about the future role of the US in NATO, reports had previously emerged that Washington might reduce some of its military resources in Europe and shift greater responsibility for the continent’s defense onto its allies.
According to Spiegel, such plans are being called a potential “turning point” within the Alliance, as European countries will have to ramp up their own defense capabilities more quickly.
