Kyiv will celebrate City Day this year on May 30-31 without citywide celebrations, but with local thematic events.
This was announced by the Kyiv City State Administration, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"For the fifth year in a row, the city is celebrating Kyiv Day and Capital Day under martial law. Given the security situation, the city authorities are not organizing citywide events. Residents are urged to take a responsible approach to their own safety: comply with martial law requirements, closely monitor air raid warnings, and immediately take shelter in case of its announcement," the report says.
At the same time, it is noted that the city's cultural, educational, and sports institutions traditionally join the celebration of Kyiv Day, having prepared a number of thematic events for Kyiv residents and guests, including cultural, artistic, sports, and educational events for children and adults.
During the weekend, Kyiv residents and guests of the city will be able to visit the folk art fair at the Ivan Honchar Museum and the 20th International Festival-Competition of Choral Art "Song over Dnipro".
An art gallery will be set up in Holosiivskyi Park and the event "Kyiv is an invincible capital!" with master classes will be held.
A cultural and artistic event "Unity Descent" will be held on Andriyivskyi Descent, uniting the regions of Ukraine through traditions, crafts, creative presentations and performances by artists.
It is noted that open-air concerts will add a special atmosphere to the holiday, in particular, carillon music will sound from the bell tower of the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, and local performances by metropolitan groups and young artists will take place in parks and squares.
The central sporting event will be the traditional "Chestnut Run", and open sports competitions in kickboxing, rowing and beach handball will also be held.
The Truhaniv Tennis Cup tennis tournament will be held on Trukhaniv Island.
Free city tours have also been prepared for Kyiv Day, May 31.
The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that the events are taking into account martial law conditions.
Shelters are provided at the locations or the nearest safe places have been identified where participants can go in case of danger.
