Ukraine and Romania will accelerate their cooperation in the joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles for rapid deployment on the front lines. Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Nicușor Dan have agreed upon this during a phone call in which they discussed the recent incident involving a russian drone.
The Romanian President called the crash of the russian drone in Galați the most serious incident on Romanian territory since the start of the full-scale invasion. He emphasized that the kremlin’s aggression is not limited to Ukraine’s borders and poses a direct threat to NATO countries.
"As our allies and partners across Europe and the world have made clear today, Russia's aggression does not stop at borders. By continuing to attack Ukraine and threatening neighbouring NATO members, Russia demonstrates total disregard for international law and innocent civilian lives. This must stop. Russia must end its attacks and engage in meaningful dialogue toward a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," Dan wrote on social media.
The Romanian leader emphasized that leveraging Ukrainian technology and real combat experience is strategically important for the security of the entire region, which is why Bucharest is ready to strengthen joint defense projects.
"Ukraine's battlefield expertise and drone technology are strategic assets for the defence of the entire Eastern Flank. Romania will continue to invest in strengthening NATO's Eastern Flank and in supporting Ukraine in its legitimate quest of self-defence," the Romanian President concluded.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Romanian President Nicușor Dan previously stated that the russian drone changed course and crashed in Galați after being shot down by Ukrainian air defense forces in the skies over the border town of Reni. At the same time, official Bucharest emphasized that despite the drone’s change in trajectory due to Ukraine’s actions, all responsibility for the incident lies solely with russia as the aggressor country.
