Main points
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has agreed to cooperate with Romanian President Nicușor Dan on airspace defense.
  • Ukrainian military personnel and Romanian specialists will work to strengthen air defense following a nighttime russian drone strike on Romania.

Military and technical experts from Ukraine and Romania will work together to strengthen airspace defense. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this announcement in an evening address following a phone call with Romanian President Nicușor Dan.

The discussion was prompted by a nighttime strike by a russian drone on a residential building in the Romanian city of Galați, which resulted in casualties. Zelenskyy noted that the Ukrainian military has been in contact with their Romanian counterparts since last night to coordinate a response.

“We agreed with the President that Ukraine will support Romania in this situation. And our teams, military personnel, and specialists will work to strengthen air defense,” the Head of State said.

He also emphasized that Ukraine is ready to help protect the security of its neighboring country, which has consistently supported Kyiv in repelling russian attacks for the past five years. According to Zelenskyy, the parties will remain in constant communication to counter any potential threats from russia.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Presidents of Ukraine and Romania agreed to cooperate on drone production due to the russian threat.

Earlier, Romanian President Nicușor Dan stated that a russian drone changed course and crashed in Galați after being shot down by Ukrainian air defense forces in the skies over the border town of Reni. At the same time, official Bucharest emphasized that despite the drone’s change in trajectory due to Ukraine’s actions, all responsibility for the incident lies solely with russia as the aggressor country.
