Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson is expected to announce the transfer of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine. The announcement concerns C/D model aircraft, as well as possible future deliveries of the more advanced Gripen E.

It was reported by the Swedish publication Aftonbladet.

According to journalists, Kristersson will make an official announcement during a press conference at the Uppland military base in Uppsala. In addition to the transfer of Gripen C/D aircraft, the parties plan to begin negotiations on the sale of the latest Gripen E models to Ukraine.

It is expected that the purchase of the more advanced fighters will be financed through European Union loan programs.

Earlier, Ukraine and Sweden had already signed a memorandum of intent, which provides for a potential deal for 100–150 Gripen fighter jets.

As noted, the Gripen was designed with conditions similar to those in which Ukrainian aviation currently operates in mind. The aircraft can even use ordinary roads and short runways for takeoff and landing.

The fighters are also known for their rapid turnaround times. For air-to-air combat missions, a full rearmament and refueling takes less than 10 minutes.

The Gripen E variant is equipped with a General Electric F414G engine and can reach speeds of up to 2,500 km/h. The aircraft is capable of carrying long-range Meteor missiles, which allow it to engage targets at distances exceeding 100 kilometers.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in October 2025 it was announced that Sweden would build between 100 and 150 fourth-generation JAS 39 Gripen multi-role fighters for Ukraine. However, the delivery of the aircraft to Kyiv will be spread out over 10 to 15 years.
