The Czech government has approved amendments to the law on Ukrainian refugees, which impose stricter conditions for maintaining temporary protection, receiving humanitarian aid, and using vehicles with Ukrainian registration. If the changes are approved by parliament and signed by the president, they will take effect in 2027.

The amendments provide for the revocation of temporary protection for people who have been outside the Schengen Area for more than 30 days. Additionally, Ukrainians receiving humanitarian aid will be required to remain in the Czech Republic for at least 16 days per month.
In addition, the changes introduce mandatory registration in the Czech Republic for certain vehicles with Ukrainian license plates. There are also plans to eliminate the exemption that previously exempted Ukrainian vehicles from undergoing technical inspections.
The Czech government stated that the changes are intended to prevent payments to people who do not actually reside in the country. At the same time, short trips abroad, particularly to visit relatives or for business, will not result in the loss of entitlement to benefits.
If approved by both chambers of parliament and signed by the president, the law will take effect on January 1, 2027. The provisions regarding vehicles are set to take effect on January 1, 2028.
It was previously reported that the Czech government plans to radically revise the rules governing the stay and financial support of Ukrainians with temporary protection.
