A russian oil refinery in Syzran has suspended operations after its primary processing unit was damaged on May 21 as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack.
It was reported by Reuters, citing two industry sources.
According to the sources, the CDU-6 crude distillation unit, which accounts for more than 70% of the plant’s capacity, was shut down following the attack, and repairs could take more than a month.
Rosneft, which owns the refinery, did not respond to a request for comment.
The publication notes that the plant’s nominal capacity is 8.5 million tons per year, or 170,000 barrels per day.
According to sources, in 2024 the plant processed 4.3 million tons of crude oil, producing 1.5 million tons of diesel fuel, 800,000 tons of gasoline, and 700,000 tons of fuel oil.
As a reminder, on the night of May 21, Special Operations Forces, together with Unmanned Systems Forces, struck the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara Oblast of the russian federation, located more than 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. A large-scale fire was reported at the facility.
Meanwhile, the General Staff reported that on the night of May 25, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of russian targets, including the Belets oil depot (Unecha, Bryansk Oblast, russia), which is used to supply the occupying army of the aggressor state. Additionally, the Ukrainian Air Forces used Storm Shadow cruise missiles to destroy a russian command and communications post in the temporarily occupied territory of the Luhansk Region.
