Within the Volyn Region, efforts are underway to strengthen defenses along the border with Belarus in case of aggression, said Olha Cheren, the head of the Kovel District Military Administration. Her remarks were reported by Suspilne.
Cheren noted that the situation at the border is currently calm and under control, but work to strengthen the security of the state border continues. For now, the region’s population is going about their daily lives as usual, but evacuation sites have been designated in case they are needed.
“We are sowing, plowing, and carrying out all agricultural work, because our district is a border area. But people know how to behave properly in the event of a threat, because we have prepared and are preparing them for a possible evacuation, should the need arise,” said Cheren.
If a threat arises on the border with Belarus, the adjacent territories of Ukraine are subject to full evacuation, Cheren emphasized.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced preparatory measures to organize a circular defense of settlements in the Kyiv Region.
